About Baldwin City

Baldwin City is a community of approximately 3,900 residents located just south of Lawrence in Douglas County. Incorporated on September 27, 1870, the city is home to the oldest university in Kansas, Baker University, which was established in 1858. This beautiful college town still features hand-layed brick streets and wonderfully preserved historic homes as well as high quality new construction in a number of new subdivisions.

More than 50 civic organizations and eight churches call Baldwin City home, and offer valuable opportunities for becoming involved in the community. There are a variety of recreational activities for children, adults and seniors. Whether you act, fish, play sports, paint, quilt, or golf, there is something for everyone.

Maple Leaf Festival

Every fall the town comes alive during the third full weekend in October for the Maple Leaf Festival, which draws 30,000 to 40,000 visitors. The festival offers visitors a wide range of activities including arts & crafts booths, a parade, live music, a carnival, a quilt show and a melodrama.
