What is your motivation for running for office? We’ve made progress over the last 4 years in planning, budget transparency, community input and communication (city wide survey coming in October), infrastructure, and the foundations for growth. I’d like to continue to help improve these areas as well as the other challenges the city is and will be facing
What is one major issue Baldwin City is facing currently and how would you address it? There are several issues the city needs to stay ahead of including hiring and retaining city staff and thoughtful housing and business growth. There is no obvious way to address these, and it will take a creative and collaborative approach to get to the best possible solution. My focus for these and the other issues the city faces is ensuring that Baldwin City is an affordable place to live for a wide range of household incomes.
What is your vision for Baldwin City 5-10 years in the future? We need to grow thoughtfully by leveraging our unique asset of being a bedroom community with small town values and historic charm, a university atmosphere and easy metropolitan assess. We should also continue to look for ways to improve how we get community input and provide understandable transparency.
What personal characteristics and/or abilities do you have that qualify you for election to the City Council? The knowledge I’ve gained as a council member and chairperson of the Budget and Finance committee over the last 4 years about how the city plans and operates will allow me to be effective day one of the next term. I’ve brought my professional experience in strategic planning process and execution. My 40 years as a Baldwin City resident over 6 decades including the last 25 years gives me historical perspective with the experience of having lived in other cities.
