BARRY FITZGERALD - "Bo(a)tanicals"
Description: Mixed-media paintings that explore the compositional intersection of maritime botany, with a few cats thrown in for good measure.
Biographical Sketch: Barry Fitzgerald is a multi-disciplinary artist and visual communicator who loves the challenge of making images that engage intellectually, emotionally, and aesthetically. He uses metaphorical, narrative, and symbolic concepts to explore personal, social, and cultural observations.
He has been in over 160 juried and invitational exhibitions including shows in New York, Los Angeles, and London. He has received over 150 national and international awards for his work, including The Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, Communication Arts, 3X3 International Illustration, and was selected four times into 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide, a biennial juried book published by Luerzer’s Archive in Vienna, Austria.
Fitzgerald is a Professor of Illustration at The University of Kansas.
LINDSEY TOOT - "In Bloom"
Description: For this project, I wanted "In Bloom" to capture the visual variety of the seasons throughout the 12 months of the year. Each month features different organic shapes, color schemes, and textures. Each birth bouquet embraces the diverse personalities of life, accepting change and rebirth as we move into the next month or season. I chose to present these illustrations as vibrant risograph prints, where each reproduction of the image is layered differently, mirroring nature's organic imperfections.
Biographical Sketch: Lindsey Toot is a recent graduate of the University of Kansas's Illustration and Animation program. She plans to continue her illustration work while freelancing on pre-production projects in the animation industry. Lindsey was a recipient of the arts center’s Youth Art Scholarship and a BHS graduate. View Facebook Event
